Limits of automated certificate review.
Last updated 13 September 2026
This page restates limitations that also appear in the Terms of Service. It is written for operators, brokers, and counsel who want the product-specific points in one place. It is not a substitute for the Terms. If this page and the Terms conflict, the Terms control.
Not insurance, not advice
DueFiles is software. It is not an insurance company, producer, surplus lines broker, adjusting firm, or law firm. Nothing on the site or in the application is a legal opinion, coverage opinion, underwriting decision, or insurance advice. Status badges are not binders and do not create coverage. Using DueFiles does not make you, or us, a licensed insurance professional.
Certificates and endorsements
A certificate of insurance summarizes policies alleged to be in force on the date of issue. It does not amend, extend, or alter the policy. Additional-insured and waiver checkboxes are producer assertions, not endorsements. DueFiles can flag when a required ISO form number is missing from a packet. It cannot guarantee that the form attached is authentic, current, or sufficient under a particular contract or jurisdiction.
Human review
Human review is recommended, especially for high-risk trades, liquor, completed operations, and any file with low extraction confidence. Low-confidence fields are returned empty rather than guessed. A grey (pending) status means no person on Customer's team has confirmed a pass. Customer decides whether to hire, pay, or admit a vendor.
Accuracy, forgeries, and residual risk
Automated extraction can misread a scan, miss a manuscript endorsement, or treat a fabricated PDF as real. Mid-term cancellation, non-renewal, and limit cuts at the carrier may not appear on a file already in the workspace. DueFiles does not guarantee that a claim will be paid, defended, or covered, and does not insure against uninsured or underinsured loss.
Sample workspaces and example certificates, when offered, are illustrative. They are not evidence of Customer's coverage and are not an endorsement of any named contractor.
To the extent allowed by law, DueFiles' liability for the Service is limited as stated in the Terms, including the cap of fees paid in the three months before a claim, or US$100 on a free plan.
